Why See Colorado Ballet: Ballet Masterworks?
Three legendary ballets - one Colorado first!
Three master ballets will form this mixed repertory over the course of a week's engagement. The three works include Possokhov's Russian fairytale Firebird, George Balanchine's ethereal Serenade and Jiri Kylian's Petite Mort in a Colorado Ballet premiere, created for the second centenary of Mozart's death, using his music. Danced by the full company and accompanied with live music by Colorado Ballet Orchestra, this is an excellent way to sample three ballets in one exciting evening!
Firebird is based on a Russian folklore tale where a magical creature assists a prince in rescuing his true love from an evil sorcerer; the role of the Firebird is one of the most coveted in ballet. in rescuing the maiden Tsarevna from Kashchei the sorcerer. Balanchine's Serenade was originally created for the New York City Ballet, and whilst their most recognised pieces, it is now widely performed by companies across the country.
